Better Combat

Unrelated to the topic of this but I'd like to start by saying there's now a custom cursor!!

New Cursor

So cool!!

Anyways, this update aims to make combat feel a lot more satisfying. My goal is to make the player feel much cooler and more powerful. More effective styles of fighting is also now more rewarded, and there are much more visual queues to help you fully understand what's going on.

Here is what combat looked like BEFORE this update:

Ok so my recording software didn't want to record audio for this but take my word that there was no sound effects for dashing, successfully executing a combo attack, or killing an enemy

Now here's what the combat looks like after the update:

Sound effects have been redone to be more noticeable and indicative of things happening (all previously mentioned missing sounds have been added) as well as new visual effects when attacking. Both enemies and the player will now flash red when below half health. Before this you had no indication of how well you were doing, now you can better understand if you have an advantage on the field or not. The player also has an animation that plays when attacked, but I don't get hit in either of these so you just have to take my word on that as well

While not pictured within the video, enemies also now have a 50% chance to drop their weapon after being killed by a combo attack. These have a unique property of only being usable once before breaking. No other items in the game can be broken. Currently only the Brute's Bat and Boomerang can be obtained this way. You can see the Brute's Bat being used at 0:08, and can notice that they will always land a combo. Boomerang's are a little special as while they cannot be caught, they can still be parried. If you take the time to understand what you're doing it's possible to uphold the boomerang's motion.

The inventory system has been mildly reworked to make these items more interesting. Now when you have an item equipped in your primary weapon slot but nothing in the secondary slot, you'll automatically equip any weapons in your secondary slot. This allows you to immediately use dropped weapons against enemies once they're dropped.

Thank you for reading!!

Miscellaneous Changes:

- Rosemary's summoning animation has been reworked to look a lot less awkward and buggy

- Fixed a glitch where the settings bars always displayed as 50% upon opening the menu no matter what they were actually set to

- You can now interact with this statue:

The Crowned Forest
